Add a New Project

From Rectech

Hello! And thank you for your interest in adding a project to the RecTech wiki! We are delighted to have your addition. Below are directions on how to get started along with some formatting templates and more detailed instructions.

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact us at: rectechwiki@gmail.com. Thanks! The RecTech Team.

1) Create a login in - it's free, and the reason we ask people to do this is to avoid random, automated hacking

2) Search for the Project you are looking for (it will not show up, but you will be given the option to "Create this Page." If a similar design exists, you may want to include inforamtion about the variations you propose on the same page.

3) Create this page (keep in mind you will not be able to edit the Main Title so please choose carefully)

4) Add Content (see formatting requirements below)

5) Create a link to your project under one of the appropriate categories.

This particular wiki is devoted to sports and recreation to specifically increase involvement in recreational activities.

We just started creating a second wiki, sponsored by the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, that will focus on activities of daily living. This site is currently under construction, but feel free to check it out here: http://ricwiki.tech.northwestern.edu/index.php/Main_Page

Creating the Page

Once you determine that it is a new design, go to the Design Categories page. Log in and Edit that page. Add a link under the appropriate category. For example, if you wish to add a design that you named Underwater Eyes for one-handed goggle for swimming, you can go to the subcategory of Swimming first, then add a link to your design by typing in:

[[Underwater Eyes]]

Use the Show Preview button to see what you created. The words "Underwater Eyes" should appear in red since the page does not yet exist. If the results are correct, you can save the page. Be sure to include comments about your edit, such as "added new link."

Adding Content to the Page

Once the link exists, you can click on it to go to the new, blank page. You can begin your layout by copying and pasting the Template Wikitext below. For details on how to achieve the format you want using wiki markup language, see the Help:Wikitext examples. It is best to open this in a separate tab or window so you can reference it while you type.

When using the Template Wikitext below, you will need to modify some of the text to make it specific to your design. Here are things to watch for:

Images: "Image_title.jpg" should be replace with the name of the image file you plan to use. Likewise "Caption" should be the text you want to appear below the image. Delete this line if you are not using an image, copy and paste it for including more than one image. The images must be uploaded to the wiki separately to be displayed. Details on how to do this can also be found at the Help:Wikitext examples link.

You should edit the three lines that begin with "Write..." That is where you provide information about your design.

For the list of materials, keep the asteriks there, but edit the "material 1,2,3" etc. to be actual materials. Copy and paste more lines as needed. Do the same for the building steps: keep the pound sign and replace the text.

At the end, replace "Your_category" with the appropriate category or categories for your design.

Template Text

[[image:image_title.jpg|right|thumb|200px|Caption]]

Write an intro on the purpose of the design and an overview of how it works.
